A micro foundational perspective of the stockholders' profile and human capital influence on the proactive environmental strategies of international firms

Objetives

Analyze how individual employee and shareholder characteristics influence the environmental approaches of international companies, using a “microfoundations” perspective that allows us not only to identify relationships but, rather, to understand the ultimate causes that explain them.

Scientific/technical impact

This project will help to strengthen and extend the literature related to the environmental management of the firm, as well as, the literature linked to the emerging “micro-foundational” theoretical perspective. To this end, the focus is on the individual characteristics of shareholders and human capital. The academic contribution focuses on the analysis of the implications of their diversity, as well as on the analysis of the contingent characteristics in this relationship, specifically those related to the level of internationalization of the company and the country of origin and/or destination.

Social impact

The results of the project are closely related one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN in its Agenda 2030. Among the targets to be achieved within SDG 12 related to sustainable production and consumption. The description of the goal explicitly mentions the importance of “encouraging companies, especially large companies and transnational corporations, to adopt sustainable practices and incorporate sustainability information into their reporting cycle”.
